Siyadala People Development

Mark Fraser-Grant, PCCStarted Siyadala People Development in Feb 2006 with a business partner and got Siyadala off the ground with some key corporate clients. Suffered a tragic accident in November 2006 where I was out of the business for a month and my partner resigned from the company. Came out of hospital and faced the reality of a large debt with little income so took the bull by the horns and worked extremely hard building business up. I managed to turnover more than a million Rand in 4 months therefore turn company and self around and gain good market share in Johannesburg.

Now bring business to coaches and trainers under the Siyadala umbrella and have a business that is international with a multi national sending me to Tanzania, Malawi, Botswana amongst other clients that send teams of 10 -12 people at a time for some real development.

I have faced the biggest challenges in my life and never lost faith in this work and what I know I contribute. This is the key!

Where I was:

HR & Recruitment business owner
It's an over populated industry (The recruitment sector) with an easy entry and easy exit track record. Clients & candidates are often lacking in integrity and many recruitment companies as well so therefore creating a negative perception all round. It can be exciting & rewarding with a big pay check or commission pay out; though there is a well known saying that you are only as good as your last placement. This means the marketing & sales component is the predominant requirement for successful recruiters, far more than HR or interviewing skill.

"What I didn't like" / "What didn't work for me" about that profession:

The fact that corporate clients over sold the vacant positions and company culture; also HR's lack of response and poor management of the recruitment process. Conversely candidates were over selling themselves and lying about achievements, salary etc. I really didn't enjoy that aspect, what didn't work for me was that I could not engage in the development of candidates as the motivating factor in recruitment is simply to place candidates quickly!
